Test Score / EZ Grader

EZ Grader Calculator

Create an instant grading chart from the number of test questions. See the selected score, percent, letter grade, points per question, passing status, and every missed-question row.

Quick Answer

On a 20-question test, each question is worth 5 percentage points. Missing 2 questions gives 18 ÷ 20 × 100 = 90%, usually an A on a standard 90/80/70/60 scale.

Score % = (total questions − wrong answers) ÷ total questions × 100

Use your school or teacher’s official grading scale when it differs from the default.

How to use the EZ grader

Enter the total number of questions and the number missed. The calculator shows the selected percentage and letter grade, then builds a full chart for every possible number wrong. Teachers can use the chart while marking papers, and students can use it to check a test score quickly.

    For teachers

Use the chart to scan how each missed-question count maps to percent and letter grade.

    For students

Use the selected score box to calculate one specific test result without reading the full chart.

    Grade chart

The chart updates automatically when you change total questions, wrong answers, passing percent, or letter scale.

    WrongCorrectPercentLetter

    EZ grader formula

The formula is (total questions − wrong answers) ÷ total questions × 100. First find how many answers are correct, then divide by total questions, then multiply by 100 to convert the fraction to a percent.

    Teacher notes for grading charts

    SettingWhy it matters
Total questionsControls how many percentage points each question is worth.
Passing percentLets the pass/fail status match your classroom policy.
Letter scaleStandard scale is simple; plus/minus gives more detailed grade bands.
RoundingSchools may round differently, so official gradebooks can vary.

    Common mistakes

    • Entering the number correct into the “wrong” field.
    • Using a default letter scale when the class has a custom scale.
    • Forgetting that extra credit, partial credit, and weighted sections can change the final grade.
    • Rounding percentages differently from the official gradebook.
    • Comparing two tests with different question counts without checking points per question.
